Description

Assessment & Treatment of Athletes and Common Sports Injuries

Everything you need to treat common sports injuries in just 4 days!

This 4-day seminar will teach the practitioner how to assess and treat athletes and the most common sports injuries we see in the clinic. Physical assessment, orthopedic tests, electro-acupuncture, taping, and extensive soft tissue manual therapies will all be covered. Through lectures, ample hands-on practice, and patient demos including with athletes, participants will learn all aspects of assessing and treating athletes, from core concepts and skills to the practical application in the clinic. Following this seminar, participants will be able to confidently apply what they learn to a variety of sports injuries for athletes of all different backgrounds.

The key to learning how to treat sports injuries is to understand the mechanics and types of injuries common to different sports. This way what you learn will have application across many different types of athletes. For example, when you learn to treat muscle strains of the hamstring, the same treatment principles apply for any muscle strain.

The same goes for injuries of the shoulder, knee, ankle, elbow, and wrist. For example, throwing-related injuries apply to many different sports, so learning how to assess and treat these injuries has cross-applications. Think less about sports specific and more about broad application. This will allow you to apply what you learn to many different types of patients.

*Important to note, what you learn in this seminar can also be transferred to your general, non-athlete patient population; The skills you'll learn have cross-applicability for other types of MSK conditions.

Objectives:

Manual Therapy for Athletes

When athletes or active patients come into our office they care about one thing – getting out of pain and returning to their sport or activity. We see the frustration the patient feels not being able to do the one thing they love. We want more than anything to play an active role in improving their quality of life. One of the most effective ways to provide immediate relief is to address the fascial system with hands on therapies.

At this seminar, you will get exposure to the most advanced evidence-based soft tissue techniques available to address myofascial pain and hypertonicity. You will also be able to skillfully apply other techniques such as cupping, IASTM, use of foam rollers and massage guns. In this training, you will build a foundation in the anatomy and function of fascia in both normal and pathological conditions. With over 10 years of clinical experience as a sports chiropractor for multiple professional sports organizations and amateur athletes, Dr. Lev Furman will cover the most effective application of soft tissue manual therapy. This seminar will take your practice to the next level when it comes to helping athletes recover from injuries and return to optimal performance.

Assistant: Dr. James Werner:

As a former hockey player Dr. Werner took for granted that he would always be able to perform at his best. Sports related Injuries not only cost him his competitive edge, but they also cost him his dreams of becoming a professional athlete. Through the frustration that ended his career it became clear to Dr. Werner that athletes need a way to conquer their injuries. This is when Dr. Werner began to study and practice sports performance-oriented chiropractic therapy. It is Dr. Werner’s philosophy that the job of a good performance therapist is to minimize the time lost to sports related injuries and to maximize an athlete’s performance on game day.

Over the course of the last decade Dr. Werner has traveled across North America to intern, learn, and work firsthand with world class sports medicine clinicians, clinical researchers, and performance coaches so that he can help athletes protect their competitive edge. These travels have allowed him to work with National Championship programs like the University of Denver Hockey, Iowa State University Wrestling, and with national champions, professional athletes, and Olympians. You can learn more about Dr. Werner here.
