Instructors: Lev Furman, DC, Darren O’Rourke, L.Ac.

Length: 1 hour

Lecture and demos

The causes of back pain often do not come from the back itself. There can be many factors at play, including imbalances such as inhibited gluteal muscles, hip issues, trigger points, and issues that cause the low back to be overly stressed and overworked. In this presentation, Lev Furman and Darren O’Rourke go over some of these causes including how to find them through assessment and how to treat them. Includes lecture and demo.

Length: 2 hours

Instructors: Lev Furman, DC and Darren O’Rourke, L.Ac.

Lecture, demos, and hands-on practice

The best MSK treatments include some type of soft tissue manual therapy. We’re not talking about a massage or cupping. Instead, soft tissue techniques that are highly targeted and concise, and do not take a lot of time.

In this lecture, with demos and hands-on practice, Lev and Darren will review the top 3 soft tissue techniques used for sports injuries (and can be applied to other patients as well), including what the techniques are and when to use them. There will be approximately 30 minutes of lecture followed by demos and hands-on practice

Length: 1 hour

Instructor: Lev Furman, DC

Lecture and demo

The best musculoskeletal treatments involve using multiple modalities to address the root cause and help promote faster healing. However, if not done correctly, this will lead to over treating, flare-ups, and wasted time treating. To do this correctly, each modality must have a specific purpose and goal when used, and not every modality will be used on every patient.

Through lecture and demos, Lev will show you the top types of treatments for MSK patients, how to put together a multimodality treatment, in what order to treat, how to not over treat, and what a treatment plan might look like.

Instructors: Darren O’Rourke, L.Ac. and Moses Alvarez, L.Ac.

Length: 1 ½ hours

Lecture, demos, hands-on practice

Orthopedic needling requires specific techniques most acupuncturists did not learn in school. This includes deeper needling, palpation, needling with pincer grip, proper anchoring of the needling hand, and proper patient positioning. In this presentation, Darren and Mosses will cover these important basics through demonstration, and then participants will practice these techniques on each other. Includes lecture, demos, and hands-on practice.

Instructors: Jamie Hampton, DAOM and Moses Alvarez, RN, L.Ac.

Length: 1 hour

Lecture, demo, hands-on practice

The femoral triangle is an area many acupuncturists either feel insecure about working in or just avoid completely. While caution should be used when needling in the femoral triangle, it should not be avoided, especially since it includes many important structures that can offer relief for hip, groin, and pelvic floor pain. Once you understand the anatomy, how to locate the structures within the femoral triangle, and practice needling in the triangle, you will fele much more confident in needling this area safely and effectively. Includes lecture, demo, and hands-on practice.

Length: 1 hour 45 minutes

Includes lecture, demo, and hands-on practice

Speakers: Jamie Hampton, DAOM and Darren O’Rourke, L.Ac.

A lot of pain in the pelvic and pelvic floor region actually comes from causes originating outside the pelvis. This includes from trigger points of various muscles. In addition, these muscles attach to and affect the function of the pelvis. The adductors are one such muscle group which is a common cause of pain in the pelvic floor. In this section, Dr. Hampton covers the adductors including the anatomy, insertions, trigger points, and needling.

Instructor: Anthony Lombardi, DC

Length: 1 ½ hours

Lecture and demos

Many Acupuncturists take way too long with Orthopedic/MSK treatments. In this presentation, Dr. Lombardi will show you how you can complete a thorough, effective treatment in 30 minutes or less, including how to treat two patients in an hour or less. This includes taking a focused MSK history, physical assessment, and treatment. Includes lecture and demos of treating two patients.

Instructor: Anthony Lombardi, DC

Length: 1 hour 15 minutes

Includes lecture, demo, and hands-on practice

In these patients, treatment you provide will not fully resolve their pain, and these patients often have recurrence and flare-ups. You will never fully resolve their pain since the root cause is in their foot which affects the entire kinetic chain. In this presentation, Anthony will cover gait analysis, how improper foot position causes strain on different joints in the body, how to analyze the gait, and how to correct subtalar joint pronation using taping. Includes lecture and demos, and hands-on practice analyzing stance and gait.

Instructors: Ciel Yogis, DPT and Jamie Hampton, DAOM

Length: 30 minutes

Lecture only with Q&A

There exists a scarcity mentality in the field which causes practitioners to not refer out. This may be because of insecurity, misconceptions about other providers, or fear of losing a patient. Yet a true professional relationship with other providers produces a fruitful practice for you and much better outcomes for your patients. In this presentation, Dr. Hampton and Dr. Yogis will review why it is important and ethical to know your limits, when to refer out, and show you how to develop a relationship with other providers that results in better care for your patients and more patient referrals.

Instructor: Ciel Yogis, DPT
